I draw inspiration for my work from the beautiful little valley that surrounds us. I am compelled by order in nature – the tidy rows of vineyards, the neat columns of orchards, the rolling hills cut by narrow country roads. I wander the back roads of Yamhill County looking for picturesque moments to bring back to my studio at home. The majority of my work is produced from a memory verses an actual picture. I use vibrant colors and bold shapes to recreate the joy I feel about the landscape that surrounds me. I want people to feel the energy of the color and movement in my paintings and not just a rendition of a specific place and time.
Born and raised in Bend, I grew up with a family of artists and was never without a drawing pad. I attended Pitzer College in Claremont, California where I earned a B.A. in Art History with minors in both Anthropology and Fine Art. In college, I was a sculptor, never picking up a paint brush until my mid-twenties. I am a self-taught painter and create because I must.
