Louise Larsen

Fabric Art

I am a creative person. I have studied sculpture and have sung in small operas, eventually appearing as soloist with the Honolulu Symphony and Honolulu Opera Company. I participated for 30 years in all aspects of performance with the Pentacle Theater in Salem, Or. And now at 80 years old, I love fabric art and working with the intensely colorful, painterly fabrics of the Kaffe Fassett Collective.

I was born in Honolulu, Hi., and when married, lived on plantations on various Hawaiian Islands raising two children and writing 2 ballets and children's operettas. My life changed when we were transferred to Salem to run a short-lived Dole operation. Then, after 30 years with the Pentacle, and around the time of my 80th birthday, I started making clothing, scarves and table runners from vintage kimono cuttings. I call them "Compositions". These are now sold in several boutiques and galleries on the Oregon Coast and Tahoe area. Currently, I am embarking on a collection of jackets, tunics and tops using fabrics from the Kaffee Fassett Collective.
