Photography
I like a challenge. I like hard stuff. I want to produce what nobody else is doing. I am driven to push my photographic equipment in original creative and technical ways. My photography is a way for me to capture stunningly spectacular moments in the natural world. My initial challenge was birds in flight. I then expanded into high-action animal sports.
I began a serious pursuit of photography in 2002. My interest in high action animal sports began with Border Collie sheepherding trials. My goal was to capture the face and expression of the Border Collie because they are highly intelligent and expressive. I was soon recognized as the national photography expert in this sport.
Every year, I travel from coast to coast photographing the most prestigious herding trials in America. Recently I have branched into equestrian sports, primarily the sporthorse disciplines of dressage, combined driving, jumping, and eventing. I photograph national level performance horses with the goal of portraying their emotions and intensity.
I love the challenge of mathematically calculating the astro-alignment of the sun and the moon, relative to landscape subjects such as Mt. Hood, to create unique and original photographic compositions.
