260114 - Beginner to Advanced - Popular in Scandinavian communities, explore this aesthetic form of embroidery traditionally used in clothing and table linens. Hardanger is a counted stitch, worked in geometric ‘klosters’ blocks which include open spaces. Create a HEART pincushion, pendant or card using Aida fabric and 2 sizes of perle cotton thread.

260117 - This workshop offers a basic introduction to mosaic.  Discussion includes design theory on pattern, flow and placement, and an overview of substrates, adhesives and materials appropriate for mosaic art. The project will be craft-level  for interior use only, and can be used as a trivet or wall hanging.  It takes 2 days to fill a design with tiles. Grouting can’t take place for at least one more day, ideally 4-5 days for good adhesion. The instructor will demonstrate and send students home with dry grout.  A video tutorial link will be provided for grouting at home along with written instructions.

260128 - Blackwork was popular in Medieval Spain, and brought to King Henry VIII's court by his first wife, Catherine of Aragon.  It is created with simple counted stitches, most often worked on Aida fabric with a single thread color.  Create a small sampler of these geometric stitches and  learn how contemporary artists are incorporating this embroidery form into landscapes, still lifes and clothing.

260207 - Moku Hanga -Learn the skills to successfully produce a multi-colored print. Carve on Shina (Japanese plywood), spread ink with a special, stiff printing brush and print on washi with a baren, the Japanese hand-held printing tool. Students will be given a basic printmaking kit to take home including a quality u-gouge and v-gouge, printing brush and baren. If you already own these supplies, you can return them for store credit at McClain’s Printmaking Supplies. Printmaking supplies will also be available for purchase during class. All levels 18 years old and older are welcome.

260211 - For Beginners  - Traditional Hispanic New Mexican embroidery using crewel wool yarns on homespun cotton fabric. Historical examples were created with indigo blue and local vegetable dyed wool threads on hand woven cotton cloth which imitated expensive, imported silk fabrics. Common motifs are reminiscent of Talavera tiles, all created with a simple laid stitch. Create a Colcha stitched pincushion and vicariously escape to the sunny Land of Enchantment.

260225 - Sometimes thought of as reverse Blackwork, a motif is left unstitched, delineated by the background of Blackwork-style stitches.  Assisi Work was popular during the Italian Middle Ages and Renaissance.  It was often created using red thread, one of the few early dyes that did not bleed when washed.  Using Aida and perle cotton, you will create a sachet or pin cushion.

<>  It is very important to include your Phone Number at checkout.  It may be necessary for the gallery to contact you if there's a change in the class schedule.

<>  CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY
  • If a student withdraws from a class more than 1 week before the class begins, a refund, less a processing fee equal to 20% of the class cost, will be paid.
  • NO REFUND will be paid if the student withdraws 1 week or less before the class begins.
  • In the event that Currents Gallery cancels a class, the Gallery will mail a full refund to the student.
