Fiber Art
I’m inspired by the many historical expressions created by use of the humble needle. I find the tactile nature of hand stitching to be meditative, as I focus on abstracting natural forms, or venturing into whimsy or social commentary. I’m passionate about teaching and enjoy shepherding others into the traditions of hand stitching, hoping that they too find solace in self-expression.
I am a Willamette Valley artist, transplanted from New Mexico. While I’m primarily self-taught, my mother worked professionally in watercolors and contemporary quilting.
Surrounded by friends and neighbors of various cultures and traditions, I have benefitted from learning crafts from many accomplished artists, and I live in a multi-media artistic family.
I focused on anthropology and history in my undergraduate studies. My graduate work in adult education has led to teaching immigrants, incarcerated people and providing academic support for college students with learning differences…always finding connections to artistic expressions…mine and others.
