I create art for me. I never know what I am going to make but when I get the clay out, it just starts happening, and transforming into something. Though I play many roles in life, when it comes to my art, it’s a true honest reflection of me, of who I want to be. I don’t want to be anything else but Jason, just me, myself, and I.

I grew up in the Tri Cities, Wa., and have always had an appreciation for the arts. My creative journey started at a young age, influenced by Scandinavian art and culture from my Danish and Norwegian family. I started thinking about art as a lifestyle in high school in Kennewick, Wa. where I took ceramics, bronze castings, and welding classes. In 1990 I started college and was involved in all aspects of ceramics at Columbia Basin College.   I was so infatuated with ceramics that I dropped all my other classes.  But life got in the way.

In the fall of 2022, after 30 years doing other things, my wife encouraged me to return to my dream. I have been back to my art for 3 years now in our home studio where we both enjoy our art. We bought a Brent Pottery Wheel, and a Skutt Kiln. My favorite part of the process is getting it to the greenware leather hard stage. I just love the earthiness of it; the cool, raw feel of the clay.  It is the most beautiful state of the clay to me. Sometimes I wish I never have to fire it.
