Silversmithing
My design inspiration stems from shape and texture and from Henri Matisse’s paper cut-out work, Hawaiian quilts, and Asian antiques. Living in Oregon, I receive inspiration from majestic mountains to the Pacific Ocean and the green fields of the Willamette Valley in between. Creating with my hands has been a joy to me for as long as I can remember. As a small child learning to needlepoint and knit from my grandmother and to sew and paint from my mother were treasured times. In recent years, pottery, quilting and silversmithing have been my creative outlets. Transforming silver sheet and wire by sawing (piercing), soldering, hammering, and finishing to create a one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art is a passion. I take pride in making nearly all the pieces used in my jewelry: toggles, clasps, ear wires and silver beads.
