Painting, Drawing, Collage

Making art feels instinctual and gives me fulfillment. I treasure nature and animals, and look for an image that can be re-created into a captivating painting, drawing, or collage.  My interpretation looks dreamlike and is thought-provoking.  I want the viewer to wonder about the moment, time, circumstances and setting.
I grew up a child of well-known artist parents in Trinidad California, a small town known for its rain, fog, and coastal scenery. I started creating art at a young age. I spent most of my time outside at the beach, rivers, and in the woods which forged a strong connection to nature.  I studied drawing, painting, collage and ceramics and graduated from Humboldt State University with a bachelor’s degree in art.

I start with a sketch, followed by paint, and pieces of painted paper for collage. I use complementary colors, paper, and paint layers as an enhancer for texture and a dreamy feel.  I am always challenging myself by experimenting with new methods and styles.  In the past few years my work has evolved, using the concepts and techniques I enjoy most in collages and animal portraits.  Each piece is a complex puzzle.  I enjoy the challenge of putting the pieces together to make a final image that is unique, whole, and satisfying to the viewer’s eye.
